Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the group access places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
